Harry Potter Month | Cursed Child Thoughts

Pottermore. From https://www.pottermore.com/news/what-to-expect-from-cursed-child-script-book

Suffice it to say, Potter Month would not be complete without a discussion of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. As someone who will likely never see the stage play, I am really looking forward to reading the script book, which will be released this weekend! Of course, no excitement is met with one-hundred-percent clear feelings...

Unfortunately, I am cheap and preordered with regular shipping. This resulted in a very sad email informing me that my copy will not be arriving July 31st, but rather sometime between August 5th and 10th! Cue dramatic violin music. I'm really proud of myself so far for literally running into zero spoilers, which is quite the feat in the current era of social media story ruiners (the worst kind of people).

While I am undoubtedly excited to read the script book, for some reason I feel like part of the magic is missing for me. Maybe it's due to the exclusivity of the stage play. I almost feel as if the stage book is me peeking into a secret club that I wasn't necessarily invited to. Don't get me wrong, I think it is really neat that this story has taken the stage- but the change in medium has also resulted in a change in the amazing inclusivity of the original series. Now, with all the rumors about a movie version, it is all becoming a very interesting insight into the consequences (both positive and negative) of various channels of narrative distribution.

What do you think? Am I alone in these mixed feelings? Let me know!

  1. I am curious about it, but I agree with you. I think I'm less excited since it is a script book, and I know I won't have a chance to actually see the play. However, I'm still so curious about the story!

    1. We have the same exact feelings! Did you here it might be coming to Broadway? As someone in the states that somewhat increases the slight chance I may see it someday. Haha
